Sakaiminato in Tottori Prefecture
Sakaiminato is a port town in the west of Tottori Prefecture, and it is best known for the Mizuki Shigeru Road, a street lined with bronze yokai figures. The street is named after the manga artist Mizuki Shigeru, whose museum stands nearby. People who search for sakaiminato tottori usually want this combination: a short walk, a museum and fresh seafood by the harbour.
The town is also where cruise excursions in the prefecture start. This page explains the road, the museum, the seafood market and the options for guests who arrive by ship. The road and the museum are within a short walk of the station, so Sakaiminato works for a few hours as well as for a full day.

Mizuki Shigeru Road
A street of bronze yokai, lit in the evening.
The Mizuki Shigeru Road runs about 800 m from the JR station, according to the city administration. Bronze figures of yokai, the spirits of Japanese folklore, stand along the street, and the number depends on the source: the city and the museum count 178 figures, while the tourism site of the prefecture names 153.
In the evening the street is lit. The museum describes light projections and illuminated figures from sunset until 22:00. A walk after dark is best planned as a stroll, with a guide if you want the stories. Our tour overview lists the walks that start in Sakaiminato.
Mizuki Shigeru Museum
Fees, hours and the way there.
The Mizuki Shigeru Museum charges 1,000 JPY for individual adult visitors. Junior high and high school students pay 500 JPY, elementary school students 300 JPY, and preschool children enter free. Holders of an accepted disability certificate pay 300 JPY, and one companion receives the same reduction. For groups of 20 or more the adult rate is 900 JPY.
The museum is open from 09:30 to 17:00, with the last entry at 16:30, and it has no regular closing day. It has been open again since April 2024. Tickets are sold at the desk, and online tickets are available through the museum website. From the station it is about a 10-minute walk, and the museum has no car park of its own. The Hinode, station forecourt and Taishomachi car parks are named for drivers, and their fees should be checked on site.
Seafood market
Fresh fish from a sales centre, closed on Tuesdays.
The Sakaiminato Suisanbutsu Chokubai Center is a sales centre for fresh seafood and should not be mixed up with the fishing port or the wholesale market. A city tourism map from August 2025 lists the hours as 08:00 to 16:00, with an earlier close when stock sells out, and the centre is closed on Tuesdays. Plan the market for the morning and treat a Tuesday as a day without it.
Crab is a winter speciality of Tottori. The season rules and the other local specialities are on our page about Tottori crab and local food.
Visiting from a cruise ship
Short stop or long day: what the excursions cover.
Several offers start at the port of Sakaiminato. The group shore excursion for cruise guests lasts about 7 hours and includes transport and a guide in English, Japanese and Chinese, while attraction tickets and meals are paid separately. A semi-private tour for cruise passengers lasts about 5 hours in a small group, with tickets for Matsue Castle and the Adachi Museum of Art included, and the guide waits at the cruise terminal with an orange sign.
Both tours lead partly to Shimane Prefecture, so they are day trips beyond Tottori. For a stop of only a few hours, the walk along the yokai road and the museum are within easy reach of the station. A private yokai walk of about 2.5 hours covers the road and the Yokai Shrine, and the evening walk of about 1.5 hours adds folklore stories and shadow projections. The Tottori tours page compares these options.
Getting to Sakaiminato
Train, airport bus and the next stops.
Sakaiminato has its own station, and the museum and the road start within walking distance. From Yonago Kitaro Airport, a reservation-based shared bus called Minatooru runs to Sakaiminato for 100 JPY. More details on buses and rental cars are on the airports page. For trains from Osaka and Okayama, read how to get to Tottori.
Yonago, with the Kaike onsen district, is the neighbouring base on the same coast. See Yonago and Kaike Onsen if you want a bath after the walk.
